City Simulation One day in my third grade class, my teacher, Mr. Frame, announced that we were going to decide who was going to be the mayor, vice mayor and counselors. He explained to us that it was a city simulation and we were going to act like it was a big city and have everything that they have in a big city. |

When Mr. Frame asked who wanted to run for Mayor, there were about 5 people, including me! I was kind of scared because the people who volunteered were kind of competitive. Mr. Frame said that if you want to erase your name off the board you could by the end of the day, but after that you couldn't. The next day I looked at the board and there were only two people left, besides me. |

The Campaign The next day we started our campaign. I worked really hard. I made posters and gave everyone a jolly rancher that said "Be jolly -- vote for Brooke" The next day I gave everybody smarties that said "Be smart - vote for Brooke". |
with long brown hair. Vote for Brooke to be your Mayor!!

| Me and my Dad thought of a great idea -- it was to give everybody free ice cream coupons to either McDonalds or Dairy Queen. The one bad part about it was that I had to talk to the manager of the store, or at least that's what my Dad said. We called the manager of McDonalds first and asked him if we could come talk to him. He said that he would be there in a few days but I had to get the coupons fast cause the next day was voting day. We called the manager of Dairy Queen and he said that we could come that day. That morning we went to go talk to the manager and one of the people who worked there said that the manager had left these ice-cream coupons for me. They were the ones I wanted! |

The Speech The next day I was so excited and scared at the same time. There was this girl who was running against me that was really competitive. The voting time came and I had to give a speech. While I was giving the speech I felt like I was about to cry I was so scared. |

Here's my speech:
There are six great reasons why I should be mayor of Smart City. #1: B I will be a brilliant mayor #2: R I will be a responsible mayor #3: O I will be a optimistic mayor #4: O I will think out side of the box when I am mayor #5: K I will be kind as a mayor #6: E E X C E L L E N T ! And as Yoda might say: "Excellent class you are. Vote for Brooke, you should!" |
|
The Vote Right after my speech we voted. Later Mr. Frame told us to put one tick on the board if he called our name. I counted all my ticks up at the end and I WON! I had 22 ticks out of 28. I was the Mayor of Smart City (we picked the name later)! |

BEING MAYOR Being mayor was kind of hard. Each day we'd have a town meeting and we'd decide who got jobs and not. To get a job you have to write an application and then have two pepole check it. If you any errors you'd have to do it over again. The hardest part was rejecting papers. I did not like seeing tears on people's faces, but I had to do my job. My favorite part was that I didn't have to pay for a house (our desk was our house and everyone else had to pay $30 for their house). In the end it was really fun. I wish we could do it again some year, even if I don't become mayor. |
